Bright Corner

Bright Corner is a support ministry to families in the community who, due to challenging circumstances, are finding it difficult to have their basic needs met. The ministry's inspiration is propelled by the compassion of Christ for the less fortunate found in Matthew 25:35-36.

Through generous donations by church members, Bright Corner is able to offer fresh and non-perishable food to the participants once each month at a Saturday morning 'Drop-In'. A light brunch is served while the participants mingle with one another, giving them an opportunity to establish friendships and meet on a personal level with the volunteers. Guest speakers offer advice on such topics as finances, health and nutrition, and parenting as well as members from the congregation giving inspiring testimonials of God's goodness in their lives. The Christian faith component is stressed and the participants are encouraged to present their requests for prayer (if they are comfortable) and to share with one another the answers to their prayers that God has given them. A children's program is also available, giving parents an opportunity to relax and enjoy their time with other adults.

While all this is going on, volunteers are busy behind the scenes packing grocery bags to be handed out at the end of the Drop-In. We may not have everything needed, but we do share everything we have.

Mary Mehlhorn is our Bright Corner Community Care Co-ordinator. During the month, she visits participants of the Bright Corner program to help them access the full range of community services available and look into options to meet other practical, emotional, legal and spiritual concerns.

If you are in a situation right now where you require immediate help, please contact Mary Mehlhorn at the church office (905) 335-5808 and she will be happy to help you out.

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you invited me in,
I needed clothes and you clothed me,
I was sick and you looked after me,
I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

Matthew 25:35-36
