Healthy EatingDescription
First Place 4 Health is a faith-based weight loss plan endorsed by registered dieticians and physicians. Meeting in a weekly group, members follow a 12-week curriculum that is centered around achieving balance in four essential areas of their lives: emotional, spiritual, mental and physical. First Place 4 Health encourages members to adopt practical disciplines in all four areas. These include regular attendance and fellowship (emotional); prayer, Scripture reading and Bible study (spiritual); Scripture memory and keeping a food record (mental); and eating well and exercising (physical). First Place 4 Health helps members learn how to be victorious over past eating patterns and how to commit their minds and, ultimately, their bodies to God.

What’s expected of you
There are nine commitments that come with this Bible Study and I would encourage you all to review them and decide if this is what you really want. Honestly, those who had the greatest success were those who kept the most of their commitments. Here they are:

1.   Attendance: This is a powerful commitment. The support you get from being at the sessions is tremendous and can help you get over the hurdle if you are wanting to give up that week!
2.  Exercise: we’ll learn more about this as we go.
3.  “Live”-it (formerly known as the “die”-et): this will be our first order of business!
4.  “Live”-it tracker: tracking all our food consumption.
5.  Encouragement: each week you’ll have a different prayer partner. You are responsible for contacting that person in some way during the week to encourage them (and yourself) on this journey.
6.  Bible study: Takes about 20 minutes each day. After doing it for the first couple weeks you’ll miss it when you don’t do it! This session the bible study is called Giving God Control.
7.  Scripture reading: Your own scripture reading outside of the bible study. However much or little you want, everyday.
8.  Scripture memory verses: One each week in relation to your bible study to be recited at weigh-in. I never realized the power of memorizing God’s word until I started with First Place.
9.  Prayer! The ultimate communication with God. Every day!

Details
1.  Cost of book & CD: $25
2.  12 weeks, 1.5-2 hours per session. Check the calendar or call the office (905-335-5808) for the current dates.  Expect the first week to run a bit longer as this is measurement week. You are only measured at the first and last meeting. You will be weighed-in (privately!) at all other meetings. Regular sessions are divided into 3 parts: Weigh-in, nutrition/fitness subject of the week, bible study.
3.  Each member will take turns preparing a healthy meal for the group each week. This is part of the program that we found very successful. You get 12 meals, learn some great recipes and only have to prepare once. Generally we eat during the weigh-in.
4.  Expect your attitudes about the value of your body (physically, mentally and spiritually) to be radically changed and that some of these attitudes will be difficult to face.  Expect that each member of this group will be 100% there to support you through any trials you come up against!  Expect to experience a closeness to God like you’ve never had before.  Expect that God will meet you in this place and make miraculous changes in your life!

Library

The library at NBBC is well stocked with a wide variety of books. There is a large section of Christian fiction covering a range of genres (thriller, romance, historical, etc.) in addition to the non-fiction section covering many topics of interest including Church History, Spiritual Growth, Doctrine & Issues and much more. We also have a selection of books for youth and children. Make sure to check out the multi-media materials as well including group study videos, topical and movie videos as well as music CD's and our sermon CD's and DVD's.

Anyone can borrow from the NBBC library. If you are not a part of our congregation, just fill in a contact info card on your first visit so that we know how to get a hold of you if you forget to return your book on time.

The library is self-serve, so it is open whenever the church is open. Office hours are from 9:30 - 4:30 pm Monday to Friday, but there are often groups here in the evening, so call the office (905-335-5808) to find out if the church will be open when you are hoping to come by.
